Vibe coding is not “coding without thinking.” It is a Human Centred development style where humans stay responsible for meaning, priorities, and trade-offs, while AI agents accelerate the boring parts: scaffolding, refactoring, test-writing, documentation, migrations, and the endless glue-work between tools.
The future we are trying to code is not a single product. It is a living ecosystem of small, modular tools that communities can adopt, fork, and evolve, so local groups can shape their own digital lives rather than renting them from distant platforms.
A core principle is Local First AI: bespoke, targeted models and workflows tuned to a community’s domain, language, and constraints, running as close to the community as possible, and designed to work even when the internet is unreliable, unaffordable, or politically unsafe.
Agentic Development makes this practical by turning software work into a loop: define a goal, delegate tasks to agents, inspect results, and iterate. Humans provide direction and judgment. Agents provide speed, consistency, and the ability to carry context across long and messy projects.
This approach aims to empower communities to develop and maintain their own technical infrastructure: websites, data tools, civic apps, learning platforms, local archives, and coordination systems, without needing to become dependent on venture-backed roadmaps or fragile SaaS subscriptions.
Vibe Coding the Future is also a governance challenge, not just a technical one. If communities are going to run their own infrastructure, they need shared rules for quality, security, maintenance, and decision-making, so the system stays trustworthy as it grows and forks.
The promise is not perfection. The promise is leverage: giving ordinary people the ability to build and sustain meaningful tools, quickly, safely, and in alignment with their values, using AI as a force-multiplier rather than a replacement for human agency.
